RICHMOND, Va. – After rolling to the Atlantic Lacrosse Conference (ALC) tournament championship and entering the national tournament as the top seed, Virginia Tech has been named the ALC Division I favorite in 2023, according to the preseason coaches poll.

The Hokies (15-2), who brought a 14-1 record into nationals, grabbed six of the 10 first-place votes to take top honors in the preseason poll.

Liberty (11-5) was slotted second, as the flames were aided by a pair of first-place votes.

Liberty edged out Clemson (15-5), even though the Tigers beat the Flames in the ALC tournament before advancing to the national semifinals. Clemson snagged a first-place vote to help with its No. 3 rank.

Rounding out the top four is NC State (7-7). The Wolfpack fell to Clemson in the first round of the ALC tournament by a lone goal. Five of NC State’s seven losses came by four goals or fewer.

James Madison (7-2) sits in the fifth chair bolstered by a first-place vote.
