PROVO, Utah – Thanks to a quick start, Utah captured the 2022 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC) Division II championship, downing Montana State, 15-8, on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Brigham Young.
With the victory, Utah as earn an automatic qualifying berth to the 2022 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, which will be held in Round Rock, Texas, from May 9-14.
The Utes (9-3) relied on their defense to keep the Bobcats (9-6) off balance and pick up the victory.
Utah becomes the first program in MCLA history to earn a bid to nationals as non-varsity program at an institution that has a varsity program. Prior to this year, schools with a varsity entity were not eligible for MCLA competition.
