STORRS, Conn. -- In recognition of his contributions to UConn lacrosse and the game in general, teammates and friends of Harvey H. Stoler have established an award in his honor after his untimely death earlier this year.
The award will be presented annually to the UConn lacrosse player who demonstrates outstanding lacrosse and academic achievement, along with providing leadership and promoting friendship, sportsmanship and respect for the game.
Stoler was among the early pioneers who worked tirelessly to bring lacrosse to the UConn campus beginning as a club team, and was officially designated by the administration as a varsity sport in 1966. Through Stoler's play and leadership, the club team transitioned into a varsity squad that posted a winning record in its second year of existence. Stoler went on to captain the 1968 edition of the Huskies and later coached the 1969 freshman team.
Stoler was voted to the 1960s all-decade team by his teammates for his work as an attackman.
