LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Liberty men’s lacrosse team, which ended last season in the No. 6 spot in the final New Balance MCLA Division I rankings, will play the top five teams in that poll during the 2023 season.

After facing NCAA Division III foes Roanoke in Salem, Va., and Southern Virginia at the Liberty Lacrosse Fields in scrimmages on Feb. 1 and 4, respectively, the Flames will host their first five games of the regular season.

They will begin the home slate with Atlantic Lacrosse Conference (ALC) matchups against North Carolina State on Feb. 10 and Temple on Feb. 12.

Liberty will meet its first ranked opponent on Feb. 18 when reigning ALC tournament champion Virginia Tech, which ended 2022 at No. 4, visits Lynchburg. The following weekend, the Flames will entertain both No. 20 Colorado on Feb. 25 and No. 23 Colorado State on Feb. 26.

The Flames will spend the entire month of March on the road, with four of its six games against ranked foes, including No. 2 Georgia Tech (March 11), No. 3 BYU (March 18, on a spring break trip to Utah), and No. 1 defending national champion South Carolina (March 31), which eliminated the Flames, 11-9, in the quarterfinal round.

Then, on April 2, the Flames will wrap up their seven-game road stretch at No. 5-ranked, ALC tournament runner-up Clemson.

Liberty will conclude its regular season with back-to-back home games against No. 8 Concordia on April 7 and ALC North rival James Madison on April 15 before the ALC championships are played for the second consecutive year at Lynchburg City Stadium on April 29-30.

One week later, the 16 qualifying teams from each division will travel to Round Rock, Texas, to compete in the May 8-13 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance.

This fall, the Flames will host JMU on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. before traveling to Blacksburg for a final scrimmage against the No. 4 Hokies on Sunday, Oct. 29.
