Liberty’s Hammett Draws Warrior Award

ATLANTA – After posting a dominant performance at the stripe in a pair of big Liberty wins, Flames graduate faceoff made Caleb Hammett is the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending March 2.

Liberty opened the weekend on Friday night against Georgia Tech and the Hanover, Mass., native, set the tone by winning 19-of-25 (76.0 percent) of his draws while gobbling up 18 ground balls. The Flames were able to post the 15-11 victory.

The next day against Texas, Hammett took it to the next level, winning 28 of the 29 faceoffs he took for a staggering 96.6 winning percentage. More impressively, he handled most of his own business of the draw, scooping 28 ground balls on the afternoon in the 14-12 triumph.

For the weekend, Hammett went 47-for-54 – an 81.0 winning percentage – along with 46 ground balls.

"Our team's success this season starts at the X,” said Liberty coach Kyle McQuillan. “We knew that he would be able to come in this year and instantly make a difference for our program, but his dominance has impressed even us.

“His dedication, passion and overall grit has given us an in edge every game, and his performance this past weekend is yet another example of that.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Hammett will receive a Warrior Burn Formula head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
