Lundin, Kology Named Players of the Month

ATLANTA- After leading their teams to dominant performances in the first month of the season, Utah Valley senior faceoff specialist Jacob Lundin and St. Thomas junior attackman Layne Kology have been named MCLA February Player of the Month presented by Lacrosse Specialties.

Kology has been instrumental in leading the Tommies to an undefeated record against one of the toughest schedules in the country.  Kology has totaled 13 goals and eight assists to pace the Tommies’ offense.  Kology also plays a vital role in the St. Thomas riding and clearing games helping them keep pressure on their opponents. 

The Buffalo, Minensota native helped lead the Tommies to a 5-0 record in February which resulted in them sitting in the top spot in the first two 2026 MCLA Division II New Balance Weekly Coaches Polls securing all but one first place vote across the two polls. 

Tommies head coach Jason King said, “Layne is the heartbeat of the team bringing energy and toughness every time we practice. That hard work and determination has translated into a successful start to the 2026 season making a positive impact in all areas on the field. He is extremely active on our clear, dodging to score and assist, as well as incredibly smart off-ball play is making him a difference maker. Layne is a student of the game and continues to improve week over week which makes him a ton of fun to coach!”

Lundin, who was dominant in an All-America campaign in 2025, has come back even stronger in 2026.  Lundin won a remarkable 86.79% of his faceoffs in the month.  The massive possession advantage allows the Wolverines to play with freedom and aggression.  In addition to his win percentage, Lundin totaled 67 groundballs in the month.  Those numbers are gaudy enough on their own, but Lundin has added five goals and four assists as well. 

The Logan, Utah native helped propel the Wolverines to a 5-0 record in the month and the number one ranking in the 2026 MCLA Division I New Balance Weekly Coaches Poll.  The Wolverines’ closest game of the month was a ten-goal win over Grand Canyon.

Head coach Colin Maxfield when asked about Lundin said, “Jake is a special lacrosse player. His consistent dominance at the FO dot is something I have not seen in my time coaching. Technique at the draw, ground ball play, athleticism to escape potential double teams after FO wins, offensive execution, and understanding of substitution situations make him the complete player. We list him as a midfielder on the roster on purpose, if Jake wasn't facing off he would likely be a first line offensive midfielder for us.”

For being named the Player of the Month, both Kology and Lundin will receive a personal plaque compliments of Lacrosse Specialties, the preferred awards provider of the MCLA.
