JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a one-goal thriller, Kennesaw State downed Florida Gulf Coast, 9-8, to win the 2022 SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Division II title at the Bolles School on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, the Owls (10-0) have qualified for the 2022 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, which will take place in Round Rock, Texas, from May 9-14.
Kennesaw State jumped out to an early 3-1 lead that will ultimately prove to be the difference in the game. The Owls and Eagles traded goals over the next two quarters before FGCU managed to pull it to within one in the fourth.
But the Eagles would get no closer.
Kennesaw State qualifies for nationals for the fifth time and the third consecutive. Florida Gulf Coast will await its at-large fate on Sunday, May 1 when the tournament field is selected and seeded.
