Harkey Named Coach of the Year

ATLANTA – Fresh off of leading the Gamecocks to their first national championship, South Carolina head man James Harkey has been named the recipient of the 2019 Flip Naumburg Award given to the MCLA Coach of the Year, which was announced on Thursday.

Harkey guided the Gamecocks to a 21-2 record, including a 12-game winning streak to finish the season. In those dozen games, South Carolina won a conference and national title.

The only two losses taken by South Carolina – Chapman and Liberty – were redeemed at the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.

“I'm thankful for this recognition,” said Harkey. “It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication that the Cocks lacrosse players have exhibited since 2014. I couldn't do it without my guys Crawford Prezioso and Peter Candela, as well as many others who have helped us along the way.”

In his five years in Columbia, Harkey has posted a record of 64-16 (80.0 winning percentage), including a 17-3 mark in the SELC Northeast and a 6-1 record at nationals.
