ATLANTA – After rolling to a 13-win season and capturing the SELC championship, Florida Atlantic has been installed as the top seed in the Division II bracket of the 2025 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, which will be held at the Round Rock (Texas) Multipurpose Complex from May 5-10.
The Owls, who are making their fourth trip to nationals, will go up against No. 16 UC Davis, the winners of the WCLL title. The victor in that contest will meet the winner of the No. 8-9 game featuring Utah State and UNC-Charlotte, respectively. The Aggies lost in the RMLC championship game while the 49ers were upended in the ALC semifinals.
Grand Valley State will be the second seed in the tournament. The Lakers, the top-ranked team in the division in the final regular season poll, fell in the UMLC title game, which was their first loss of the season. GVSU will square off with No. 15 College of Idaho, which advanced to the PNCLL semifinals.
Northwest Nazarene, the champions of the PNCLL, grab the No. 3 slot and earn a date with four-time CLC champion and No. 14 Rhode Island in the first round on Monday, May 5. St. Thomas, which upset Grand Valley State on Sunday, snags the No. 4 seed, which will force a matchup with ALC champion Wake Forest.
Cal State San Marcos, fresh off yet another SLC championship, land at No. 5, setting up a bout with Montana, who finished as the runners-up in the PNCLL. At No. 6, UC San Diego – which boasts victories over both Florida Atlantic and Northwest Nazarene – battles No. 11 Air Force, which fell in the RMLC semifinals.
Defending national champion and RMLC kings Montana State land at No. 7, triggering a rematch with No. 10 North Dakota State in the first round.
“We put in a lot of work to get this field right,” said MCLA director of competition Gary Podesta. “There are a lot of outstanding teams with premium schedules to seed, but I feel the committee got it right.”
