ATLANTA – After capturing it’s second national championship in the last eight years, Dayton is the unanimous No. 1 pick in the final MCLA Division II New Balance Coaches Poll.
The Flyers (13-5), which became the lowest seed (No. 9) to ever win a title, grabbed all 27 of the first-place votes to sit comfortably atop the charts.
St. Thomas (14-3), who lost to the Flyers in overtime in the title tilt, landed in second place, well-clear of the field.
Cal State San Marcos (16-2) edged out Air Force (12-2) by a lone point for third place after both teams lost in the semifinals.
Rhode Island (15-2), which entered the tournament as the top seed before getting upset by Dayton in the quarterfinals, rounds out the top five.
The UMLC finished the season with a division-high six teams in the final poll while the PNCLL grabbed four spots.
The ALC, RMLC, SELC and SLC each have three spots. The CLC, LSA and WCLL grabbed one spot apiece.
