ATLANTA – After leading UNC-Charlotte to a pair of divisional victories, 49ers junior netminder Chris Dunne has been named the MCLA Division II PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending Feb. 23.

Charlotte opened the action on Saturday in a neutral-site affair with East Carolina. Thanks to eight saves and just four goals against (66.7 save percentage), the Fort Myers, Fla., native guided the 49ers to a 15-7 victory.

On Sunday the Niners had to contend with UNC-Wilmington and the Seahawks high-powered offense. A 22-save performance from Dunne allowed Charlotte to post the 11-6 victory and rocket to the top of the ALC South standings.

For the weekend, Dunne made 30 saves against just 10 goals against – a stunning 75.0 save percentage.

“Chris joined our family in the fall and his competitive nature, positive attitude and team-oriented mentality made him a leader on our team in a short amount of time,” said UNC-Charlotte coach Liam O’Halloran. “The team rallied around him against FGCU a couple weeks ago and he carried that energy into the big Atlantic Lacrosse Conference South matchups against East Carolina and UNC-Wilmington.

“Chris’ performance was the catalyst in the wins this past weekend. He was an absolute force against a very talented UNC-Wilmington offense and was instrumental in our clearing game. Chris continues to improve week over week and his best play is yet to come.”

As the recipient of the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, Dunne will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.
