SAN DIEGO – After advancing to the national semifinals of the MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance for the seventh time in the last eight seasons, Chapman has been installed as the favorite in Division I of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC), according to the preseason coaches poll.

The Panthers (17-4), which lost to top-seeded Virginia Tech in the semis, were awarded all seven first-place votes to grab the top spot. Chapman defeated eventual national champion Concordia – which has moved to NCAA Division II – in the SLC finals, 11-5.

Arizona State (8-6) sits in the second chair, nine points behind Chapman. The Sun Devils fell to the Panthers, 8-6, in the SLC semifinals.

San Diego State (8-4), which had its best season since 2015, is slotted third, seven points behind ASU. The Aztecs fell to Concordia in the other SLC semi.

Arizona (6-6) rounds out the top four of the seven-team conference.
